He linked his gravel adventure to a mini altitude training internship. The highest point in the Ardennes, Signal de Botrange, is only 694 meters high, but in the altitude rooms of the brand new sports hotel Taeru in Erezée, guests can go up to a simulated altitude of 5000 meters!
Taeru is an altitude hotel in Belgium and has 9 altitude rooms with double beds. The desired altitude can be set on the basis of an oxygen saturation meter.
In addition to Wout van Aert, other professional cyclists such as Aimé De Gendt, Loïc Vliegen and Rune Herregodts also used the facilities.
The hotel can accommodate 43 people (18 of which can sleep in high-altitude rooms). The Taeru also has a fitness room (at Altitude), a gym, a massage room, an ice bath, a 25-metre swimming pool and a room for repairing or washing bicycles.
Outside there is even a cyclocross course with a sandbox and technical descents, created by Adrie van der Poel and Sven Vanthourenhout! The area is a paradise for cyclists, mountain bikers, runners and hikers.
