Whole-body room calorimeter

For Maastricht Instruments we have realized a single Room Calorimetry Advance chamber at the sports University in Beijing, The chamber will also get the possibility of Hypoxia Training (Altitude Simulation).

The order of this installation was already in 2021 but due to Covid-19 and the regulations where were not able to install the installation earlier.

A room calorimeter measures a patient’s energy expenditure or metabolism under various climactic conditions. The measurement technique – known as room calorimetry – measures the difference between O2 and CO2 concentrations consumed and expelled. This difference can then be used to determine the energy consumption.

We received from Maastricht Instruments the order for the installation of a single Room Calorimetry Advance chamber for the AIX University in Marseille, which also includes Hypoxia Training (Altitude Simulation).

Sleeping at Altitude, Papendal

We thank the Dutch Olympic Committee NOC-NSF for the assignment to install a altitude (bed)room at Papendal the Netherlands.

Since 2008, b-Cat has realized a climate chamber at height for the preparation of athletes in different climate conditions.
From April-May 2023 they will also have access to a altitude bedroom.

The specially developed FLOWX-pro Altitude generator will be installed with a Remote controlled panel that ensures automated and very accurate control of the required altitudes.

Altitude room with climate control

Already in 2016 b-Cat installed an Alitude system for a large training room at the National Training Centre (CNE) at Roland Garros in Paris. In January 2023 we have received the order to upgrade the Altitude training room.

We will upgrade the total software to the Altitude-Pro version and will install a full climate system to control the Altitude training room also on temperature and humidity.

We thank the French Tennis Federation in the trust in our company and the pleasant cooperation in the past and common future.

For Maastricht Instruments we have received the order for the installation of 2 pieces Room Calorimetry Advance chambers for the ACU (Australian Catholic University) in Melbourne.

Room calorimeters are an invaluable, powerful tool in metabolic research studies. By using indirect calorimetry the research possibilities increase immensely in a wide range of clinical and research settings. These systems allow long term measurements (up to 7 days), without the limitations of a canopy or a face mask. They allow researchers to gain new insights in the dynamics of human energy expenditure, substrate oxidation and so much more. A room calorimeter allows studying a person’s energy metabolism over longer durations under different circumstances. The systems consist of three different parts: the room itself, climate/circulation control and an analysis unit: the Omnical metabolic system.

ESA – bedrest studies

We are pleased to announce that we have been selected to built an Altitude system for the Human Centrifuge in Planica Slovenia.

For decades we have had a strong connection with the Jozef Stefan Institute and have already done many projects together as well as research.

The ESA-owned Short Arm Human Centrifuge has been upgraded, installed and inaugurated at the Olympic Sport Centre Planica facility near Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. Soon to be home to ESA bedrest studies, this recently enhanced clinical research centre will help further scientists’ knowledge of human physiology in space.

The human body is made for living on Earth – take away the constant pull of gravity and muscles and bones begin to waste away. Living in space is hard on astronauts and ways must be found to keep them fit and safe.

Run by the Jozef Stefan Institute on behalf of ESA, bedrest studies at the facility offer scientists a way to see how the human body adapts to weightlessness. This allows researchers to test techniques, known as “countermeasures”, to counteract the negative effects of living in space.

Two-time world champion Julian Alaphilippe chooses b-Cat High Altitude training systems.

Julian Alaphilippe has chosen to combine his preparations with comfort Altitude simulation in his private bedroom. A perfect setup that gives the ultimate comfort!

Julian is a French road cyclist and former cyclocross rider who has been riding for the same team since 2014, called Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl from 2022. He became world champion in road cycling in 2020 and 2021.

Most endurance sporters use the Live High – Train Low  (LH-TL) protocols which means sleeping in Altitude. Each person’s react different on Altitudes therefor travel with a complete team to a training camps could benefit a few, but also can be the other way around.

With the installation of the FlowX-pro 6000 Altitude generator it allows you to sleep under the perfect individual Altitude setting and through a continuously control of the SPO2 (Oxygen saturation). By a good SPO2 level the rest is perfect in balance with the required Altitude training.

The b-Cat FlowX-pro 6000 Altitude generator will control his bedroom by the aim of a Touch panel. This way the Altitude levels that fits with his altitude response can be controlled instead of going to a certain altitude training camp.

Health through and for sport

For Clinique du Sport in Namur b-Cat will supply a technical installation for the control of a single High – Altitude Simulation room.

The construction is in progress and will be open first Quarter 2023.

The Clinique du Sport will accompany you to improve your health through sport whether you are with or without a chronic pathology such as diabetes for example. If you suffer a trauma, they will ensure your recovery as quickly as possible by using the skills of the various practitioners as well as the latest scientifically established techniques, Altitude training is one of them.
